Concerns of the Founders

While drafting the Constitution, our Founders had several concerns that have turned out to be prophetic.

They understood that future generations would be tempted to give up their freedoms for the promise of safety and lack of want, in other words, a "welfare" state where the government provides for its citizens from cradle to grave.

Only by working hard and receiving the rewards of our own labors can a free people pursue true happiness. This is because a person grows in maturity and realizes his own worth by taking care of himself and his own family.

Truly helpless individuals (the Bible specifically mentions widows and orphans, but there are others who may be "needy", at least temporarily) should be helped, not by the Federal government but by family, neighbors, friends, church members, or community organizations. When government becomes involved in such matters, it always makes a mess of things because of bureaucratic inefficiency and the lack of personal concern for fellow human beings.

The able-bodied are exhorted to work in order to provide for themselves and their families: "If a man will not work, neither let him eat"(II Thessalonians 3:10). Giving money to a person capable of taking care of himself robs that person of dignity and ambition to better himself. The current welfare situation breeds multi-generational laziness and discontent. Why not encourage personal excellence through the gaining of a work ethic instead of dependence upon government handouts?

"If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy." --Thomas Jefferson

About Joe Wilson

God bless Joe Wilson. I can totally relate to his frustration, sitting there listening to smoothly rehearsed lies, statements that are proven to be false. He only said what so many of us already believe. His only crime is pointing out that the Emperor is naked while everyone else pretends that he is clothed.

How can a nation function when its leaders lie, mislead, prevaricate, and call truth a falsehood? How can we trust our leaders when they refuse to tell the truth and call US liars for searching for and speaking the truth?

God's word is truth (John 17:17). Jesus said, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).

When someone strives to speak the truth and live the truth, we can trust that person. We can have absolute trust in God because it is impossible for Him to lie (Hebrews 6:18).

Contrast that to what Jesus says about Satan: "There is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it" (John 8:44).

This Scripture makes it clear why Saul Alinsky in his "Rules for Radicals" dedicates the book to the "original radical," Satan. The tactics of the current Administration come directly from this book.

America's choice is clear: believe the truth or believe a lie? I'll stand with the absolute, dependable, trustworthy truth every time.

Scripture on a sign at the DC march

There was a white poster with black letters simply saying, "Ephesians 6:12." After the march I looked it up in my Bible and realized how appropriate this verse is for our times:

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

This is the section about putting on the whole armor of God. Continuing in verse 13: "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

"Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints."

This Scripture has never been more relevant. I'm in this for the long haul. Are you with me?

Exercising my first amendment rights!

I have NEVER been so proud to be an American as I was on Saturday, September 12, 2009. An unbelievable sea of ordinary citizens from all 50 states converged on the nation's Capitol for a peaceable protest. Nearly every person I spoke with said it was the first time in their lives they had ever protested anything! The atmosphere was NOT as the media often reported: an "angry, racist mob." It was more like a giant 4th of July celebration or a pep rally. We came together--white, black, young, old, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian--for a common cause and that was to stand for the United States of America, her Constitution, and her proud tradition of freedom.

The most emotional moment, for me, was when a million voices sang "The Star Spangled Banner". There were certainly plenty of American flags present to salute while singing!

I feel renewed and galvanized to continue to fight for the freedoms that so many have died to protect. I don't want their sacrifice to have been in vain!

On my way to Washington D.C.

I'm packing my piccolo and my newly made Revolutionary War-era militia outfit because I will be part of a re-enactor's fife & drum corps leading the taxpayer's march on Washington Saturday, September 12th. Behind us will march the Revolutionary War "soldiers" but instead of carrying muskets, they will be armed with -- teapots! :)

The march begins at Freedom Plaza just west of the White House and will travel down Pennsylvania Avenue for a little more than one mile to the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

I know that tens of thousands are planning to join us for this march and rally. I hope there will be a million! The march begins at 11:00 a.m. EST, and the "rally" at 1:00 p.m.

Please pray that there will be no violence from ACORN or SEIU members and that this will send a strong message to the crooks in the White House and both branches of Congress!
