Hmm, this sounds like our current elected officials

When one sears (i.e. brands until all feeling dies) one's conscience, the floodgates are opened for any and all forms of wickedness since the standard of absolute truth is no longer adhered to:

"This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

"Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

"But you have not so learned Christ, if so be that you have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus." (Ephesians 4:17-21)

The truth is in Jesus, in His words recorded for us for all time. He said, "If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32)

Those who live in the Universe of Lies are slaves of the father of lies, the devil (John 8:44).

The truth = freedom

I am humbled....

I learned yesterday that John Quincy Adams, the 6th President of the United States (and son of 2nd President John Adams) made a habit of reading through the entire Bible every year. This was in addition to being an ambassador, attorney general, senator, President, and then a U.S. Congressman.

JQA wasn't too busy to read the Bible. JQA wasn't too busy to totally rely on God and not himself.

I am humbled and repent my flimsy excuse of being "too busy." What is more important than putting God first in our lives--above everything, even those things we deem so "important"?

Even if I've moved heaven and earth, my day is a failure if I haven't spent at least a portion of it drinking in the truth of God's word so that it may mold me into a better servant.

David's Prayer

Reading this with new eyes, I am reminded that since the beginning of history evil men (and women) have sought to enslave and destroy others, especially God's people. Another good reminder to trust in the LORD:

"Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul; let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

"Let them be as chaff before the wind; and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

"Let their way be dark and slippery; and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.

"For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit; without cause they have digged for my soul.

"Let destruction come upon him unawares; and let his net that he has hidden catch himself. Into that very destruction let him fall.

"And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD; it shall rejoice in HIS salvation."

Psalm 35:4-9

Our enemy is different (our current government) but our Savior will be the same.

I'm praying that their "net" will be their undoing, that like Haman in the book of Esther, they will be "hoist by their own petard."

Our True Strength

In view of the election results (two new GOP governors, two more Democrat Congressmen in NY and CA), I am reminded of Ecclesiastes 9:11, "the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill, but time and chance happen to them all."

This is a war, and it will not be a swift one. We'll win some battles and lose others, but we must never lose sight of what we are fighting for.

When God called Gideon to deliver the children of Israel from the Midianites who had enslaved them, He told him, "The people that are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel become conceited and say, 'I have saved myself'." God instructed Gideon to whittle down his army until only 300 men remained against the entire army of Midian. In that way God could give them the victory and they would still remember Who was their true strength. (Judges 7)

The war against the evil men and women bent on destroying everything good about our nation, especially their "jihad" against our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His people, often seems to be a war we can't win.

But Jesus said, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)

Throughout our nation's history there have been many instances of Americans overcoming seemingly impossible odds, and through the hand of God they prevailed. I'm going to find specific examples of the Providence of God to inspire us during these dark days and share them with you. Stay tuned!
